On Sunday, Jan. 22 around 4:30 p.m., fire and rescue crews from both Huntingtown and North Beach were alerted to report of a serious auto accident on Dalrymple Road in Owings.
Crews arrived on scene to discover a single vehicle off the roadway which had struck several trees.
According to Huntingtown VFD Chief Jonathan Riffe, a black Acura travelling on Dalrymple Road left the roadway for unknown reasons, struck a guardrail and several trees. The single occupant of the vehicle, a 19-year-old female had to be extricated by rescue crews. The patient was unconscious, unresponsive and not breathing as rescue crews removed her from the vehicle.
The female patient was transported to Calvert Memorial Hospital with life-threatening injuries, where she was later pronounced dead.The identity of the crash victim is being withheld pending notification of kin.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
